Star Wars Trading Post Review | Anakin and His Angel

On Wednesday, February 17th, I had a reservation to visit the new Star Wars Trading Post shop at Downtown Disney as a special sneak peek provided to Legacy Passholders. If you weren't aware, the shop was previously at a temporary location at the WonderGround Gallery. But as of today, it's now officially open to the public at the Rainforest Cafe' location with a "Hidden Jungle Resistance Base" theme. While I didn't photograph every single item inside (there was literally so much stuff), I did manage to take quite a few photos and I hope this helps to give you an idea of what you can expect to find!

I'm fairly certain that any Star Wars fan will enjoy visiting the Trading Post! It's filled with a lot of the merchandise that can be found on Batuu as well as other fun collectibles all while feeling like you're someplace in a galaxy far, far away. They really did a fantastic job with the decorations outside and inside of the shop and they added some fun easter eggs which makes browsing all the more exciting! It's a much larger and roomier shop than anything you'd find at Galaxy's Edge which was actually really nice!

Fans will be happy to know that much of the merchandise that was previously offered last year during the exclusive 4-day shopping events at the ESPN ZONE are now available to purchase at the Trading Post! This includes Count Dooku ($139.99) and Ahsoka Tano's ($199.99) The Clone Wars Legacy Lightsabers, plushies like Boba Fett (including the Holiday edition) and Maz Kanata, the Dianoga figurine, a poseable Thrawn figure, a wooden Boba Fett Doll with base and even a CB-23 figure and remote control droid! You'll also find the new silver Batuuan Spira coin. It costs $4.99 plus tax in addition to the chosen activation amount (min. $100.00). It can be used wherever Disney gift cards are accepted!

Speaking of lightsabers, if you're interested in browsing or purchasing one of the legacy lightsabers, be sure to grab a ticket upon entrance and listen for your number while shopping. This helps to prevent crowding where the legacy lightsabers are on display. Keep in mind that the Ahsoka Tano TCW lightsabers are high in demand and there's no telling what stock will look like by the day. Also, Ahsoka's Rebels/The Mandalorian lightsabers are sold out in Florida. I've actually been told by a few of you in Florida that CMs are saying that those particular lightsabers are discontinued. So, if you favor that style, you better act fast and pick them up in California while you can. It's bewildering to me if it's true that they are discontinued since the second season of The Mandalorian only concluded two months ago. I would expect the hype over those lightsabers to still be pretty high!

One of the new products revealed is the infamous Paddy Frog Sipper that we've been seeing photos of from fans in Florida. It's been available at Galaxy's Edge since December! Over in Florida, it's $15.99 with a fountain drink or $17.49 with a specialized drink. The price at the Trading Post is a whopping $23.99! I was a bit surprised but I think it's worth the money. It's a super unique piece with a comfortable fabric strap so that you can wear any way you'd like, it also lights up, and it even has one of the little frogs that Jabba eats inside. A little gross? Maybe. But it's a great reference and makes the product stand out!

I'm giving one away on Instagram if you're interested!

There are three different X-Wing helmets available. The one on the top row is electronic and is made for adults. It costs $69.99. The others are made for kids though they do have plastic pieces on the inside that can be removed making it so that some adults may be able to wear them. They are $49.99 each. I get asked about these a lot. I think helmets are just one of those collectibles that make you feel like you're part of the Star Wars story.

As far as fashion and "bounding" go, there are a lot of different options for whichever side you fall on. Remember, certain pieces like the Jedi and Sith robes are not allowed to be worn at the parks. I recommend reading through the dress code beforehand. Believe it or not, there were even more clothing and accessory items than what is pictured here!

I've been asked a lot about the jewelry that was available at Dok Ondar's Den of Antiquities. Unfortunately, I didn't spot any of those items during this visit. Hopefully this is something that they will incorporate soon. It'd be nice to see at least a few pieces made available!

The prices in merchandise range anywhere from under $10 to nearly $1K. That Kylo Ren premiere helmet pictured above is $750! There are all kinds of collectibles both for kids and adults, the casual collector and the hardcore collector, with any budget!

I had a great time at the new Trading Post and can't wait to go back again! It's the closest I can get to feel like I'm on Batuu again. I'm also anxious to see what new items will be added this year. I hope that another legacy lightsaber will be released before the Cal Kestis lightsaber which has a Fall release date. If you get the chance to go, I hope you will have as much fun as I had! Keep in mind that the more popular shops at Downtown Disney often have lines to get in as only a certain amount of people are allowed in at a time to adhere to social distancing requirements.

If you're unable to visit you can find some of the items that are available at the Trading Post on the ShopDisney website.
