If a Star Wars movie is playing at the movie theaters, I'm there! To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, the film was brought back to select movie theaters for one week. From the Old Trilogy, I had only seen A New Hope in theaters during its re-release in 1997 so it was a real treat to witness this one on the big screen for the first time with Jason at Harkins Theaters! Hopefully one day, I'll catch my favorite of the three, The Empire Strikes Back as well!
It was great witnessing Han's sarcasm, the confrontation between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker on the forest moon of Endor, and of course, the Victory Celebration! The music combined with the various planets celebrating, and our favorite heroes embracing one another always touches me in a deep way. I made it through the entire movie without crying until Hayden Christensen appeared as Force Ghost Anakin Skywalker, and then I lost it. His redemption story is so emotional, and it means so much to me that they brought Hayden back for this scene in the Special Edition. His journey always felt more complete to me since that change.
While watching, I realized I had never noticed Salacious Crumb dancing during the music that was playing at Jabba's Palace by the Max Rebo Band. The number of times I was laughing and "Aww-ing" at that little guy was insane but I couldn't help it. Jason and I are big fans of him! Jason also told me that he never realized that the Emperor's cane was featured in this film until he saw it on the big screen. It's fascinating how we as fans might notice little things like these when viewing films in a different setting. Did you also experience this?
Of course, we had to dress accordingly for the occasion! I wore my ROTJ shirt gifted to me by Culture Fly, a stainless steel Millennium Falcon necklace I picked up years ago from Kohl's, and a Boba Fett bag also gifted to me by Harvey's. Jason wore the new ROTJ Athletic Jersey gifted to me from Her Universe. It was fun rocking our favorite fandom together!
