Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Kyber Crystal Price Increase, Rules & Stock

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Kyber Crystal Price Increase, Rules & Stock | Anakin and His Angel

Kyber Crystals. One of the most sought after items on Batuu located inside Dok Ondar's Den of Antiquities. When Galaxy's Edge first opened, all six colors (blue, red, green, purple, yellow and white) were displayed along with the Jedi and Sith Holocrons in an easily accessible area for guests to shop at one per color per person. However, when word got around that there was a rare black kyber crystal that could be found in select red viles, the chaos began! Before they changed the packaging, guests could shine a light on the vile to see whether a black crystal could be found inside. The kyber crystals that remained where then removed from the floor and kept safely behind the Legacy Lightsaber display on a shelf only Cast Members could reach to prevent any further pushing and shoving from determined collectors. Upon purchasing a kyber crystal, a CM will ask you what color you want and you will be handed one. There is no choosing involved.

Like many other items at Galaxy's Edge, kyber crystals sold out quickly. When all but yellow and white were finally re-stocked a new rule was implemented. Guests now had to purchase a $49.99 Holocron in order to purchase a $12.99 kyber crystal. The rule came and went as stock changed leaving guests, especially those who traveled from afar, those who already owned both Holocrons (or simply didn't care for one), frustrated that they couldn't obtain the kyber crystals they wanted.

Dok Ondar's has recently been able to keep all colors in stock and the rule of having to purchase a Holocron was lifted once again just before the D23 Expo which took place August 23rd - 25th, 2019. However, on Sunday, August 26th I noticed a $2.00 price increase after purchasing two kyber crystals myself. That's right, kyber crystals are now $14.99 ($11.99 with the 20% off AP discount). If you've been keeping up with my Galaxy's Edge updates you might not be surprised at this news as we've seen several pieces of merchandise from various shops throughout the land go up in price since opening. With such a high demand in product, I think this was to be expected but I definitely didn't see it happening this soon.

I definitely expect that the rule of having to purchase a Holocron to get a kyber crystal will come back at some point. I've personally seen it come and go a few times. I think that with so many people being in town for the Disney convention, they thought it best to lift this rule to prevent even more angry customers (please note that you can still only purchase one per color per person). I hope that they can figure things out and have a solid plan set up by the end of the year so that they can keep a decent amount of stock in without having to have this rule because it's been nothing but a huge inconvenience for everyone. There is always a learning experience involved with new lands opening at the parks but hopefully if we continue to voice our concerns in professional manner, kyber crystal buying will be much easier.

  1. One of my greens was Obi-Wan, which was disappointing, because both of my blues were Obi-Wan, too. NOTE: my extras were gifts not hoarding, but I did check out who they were in my holocron before shipping.

    1. Oh, how interesting! Were they different versions of Obi-Wan at all? And no worries, there is no judgement if you bought them all yourself. There are so many different types of collectors.

    1. Hi! I hope that day comes soon. These are the only colors available. However, you could possibly get black when purchasing a red kyber crystal. Keep in mind though that when using it, it will still appear as a red blade.
