In an interview with The New York Times, Shawn Levy, the Director of Star Wars: Starfighter shared some interesting new details about the film slated to hit theaters on May 28th, 2027.
On separate days, Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise visited the set. Levy was setting up for a lightsaber duel in the water when he jokingly told Cruise he should jump on one of the cameras, which he did! Of course, the most interesting detail here is lightsabers in the water. How exquisite! The lightsaber duel between Kylo Ren and Rey on Kef Bir is one of my all-time favorites, so I find this detail very exciting! While it’s likely between a Jedi and Sith, the article didn’t specify WHO was dueling. There’s always the possibility of a rivalry between individuals on the same side. Perhaps one of them could be Mia Goth’s character, who is REPORTEDLY (meaning not officially confirmed) “an evil pursuer”?
Levy also mentioned that the plot centers “around yet another father-son dynamic.” This ties in with his mentioning to Kevin McCarthy that Starfighter is inspired by Return of the Jedi.
