Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Lightsaber Meetup

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Lightsaber Meetup | Anakin and His Angel

I finally went to my first Lightsaber Meetup with my husband Jason at Galaxy's Edge on Saturday, February 29th at Disneyland. I found out about it through a Facebook event page, and since I knew we'd already be on Batuu that day, I thought we should finally experience a Lightsaber meetup ourselves! Today I'm going to be sharing several photos from the event (there are some that are blurry or not the best of quality but I thought were cool enough to share), my overall experience, and some tips and information on attending a Lightsaber Meetup yourself.

As the suns set on Batuu (there are three of them in case you didn't know), a plethora of fans gathered in front of the Millennium Falcon and lightsabers of all colors were being ignited in anticipation of the event to start. There was such an incredible energy there that I couldn't help but feel very excited. Star Wars fans are the best! There's just something truly special about being surrounded by other people to celebrate something you all love and it somehow felt all the more magical with it being on Batuu, which is literally every fan's second home. It was such a beautiful site to see Batuu lit up by the various colored blades and hilts from Galaxy's Edge and beyond (the custom hilts were especially drool-worthy)! Characters like Chewbacca and several Stormtroopers came by to see what we were all up to and participated in our shenanigans. Check out this video I uploaded to TikTok to see what the Stormtroopers had to say to Jason.

I heard from a few individuals that this Lightsaber Meetup was the biggest turn out they had seen yet. There were literally hundreds of fans who joined in on the fun and while I'm extremely glad that I was able to participate and be part of these incredible photos, I found it to be very overwhelming at times. I normally do fine with crowds but I did get anxious with there being so many people in somewhat of a narrow area. Being only 5'2", I felt like I was drowning in the crowds but luckily there were breaks in between photos where I could go off to the side real quick and catch my breath. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the TIE Echelon or the X-Wing where the group took more photos. The various shots we got at the Falcon were enough for me for one night!

If you're interested in attending a Lightsaber Meetup, please be aware that it will most likely be extremely crowded. Expect to be shoulder-to-shoulder with other fans and prepare your ears for lots of shouting. If you don't wish to be separated from who you're going with, consider using the same color blade. This did not cross my mind and I think I would've done a lot better had I thought of this beforehand. I brought my custom Savi's lightsaber with a red kyber crystal and Jason had the Skywalker saber, so obviously we were not together for the majority of the time. I also saw multiple parents experiencing high levels of stress due to the fact that their kids were separated from them for the photos.

You don't have to wear anything in particular to be able to join in on the photos. Casual wear or Star Wars bounding are both fine (just make sure to read through the Galaxy's Edge Dress Code first)! You can also bring multiple lightsabers or various colored kyber crystals so that you can participate in different photos.

Currently, you do not need to be part of the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Discord group to go to a Lightsaber Meetup.

I've provided links below to the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Discord social media pages where you can find even more photos and videos from the event and learn of future Lightsaber Meetups that you can attend both on Batuu West and East!

Lastly, I'd like to thank those of you who stopped me to introduce yourselves. I always love meeting you all! I'd also like to thank everyone who took part in putting this event together and the CMs who did their best to manage such a large and unexpected crowd. It was an event I'll never forget!

Have you been to a Lightsaber Meetup? What was your experience like? And if you haven't, let me know if you have any questions in a comment below or get in touch with me on Instagram or Twitter.

  1. I know this might be a silly question, but what are "CMs"?
